A $311.2 million investment in SA Ambulance Service will provide a massive boost to deliver brand new and completely rebuilt ambulance stations and more staff to provide emergency medical care for South Australians.

The Government of SA has committed to fund the recruitment of 350 new ambos and support development of SAAS infrastructure. The delivery of this extensive program of work will ultimately deliver benefit to all South Australians.

So, what are we investing in?

  • A brand-new Headquarters (Emergency Operations Centre and State Health Coordination Centre)
  • Five new ambulance stations for Adelaide, Norwood, Woodville, Golden Grove and Edwardstown, plus another new station at Two Wells as part of the recent budget announcement.
  • Completely rebuilding four stations for Campbelltown, Mount Barker, Gawler, and Victor Harbor, plus another two rebuilds for Marion and Whyalla as part of the recent budget announcement.
  • Upgrading a further 10 stations for Marion, Elizabeth, Whyalla, Mount Gambier, Bordertown, Peterborough, Two Wells, Goolwa, Wallaroo and Aldinga.
  • Purchase of 36 additional ambulances.
  • Recruitment of 350 new SAAS staff including paramedics, emergency service support officers, ambulance officers, clinical leaders and dispatchers.

The entire program of work will be delivered over four years from mid 2022 to mid 2026.

  • Construction commenced on the new SAAS Headquarters (Emergency Operations Centre / State Health Coordination Centre) and Adelaide ambulance station
  • New stations complete at Woodville, Norwood and Edwardstown.
  • Construction underway on the Golden Grove, Victor Harbor, Mount Barker, Gawler and Campbelltown ambulance stations.
  • Works commenced on upgrades at Aldinga and Elizabeth
  • 27 new ambulances in operation.

Opening of Norwood ambulance station

Our new Norwood ambulance station has commenced operations, strategically located at the corner of Portrush and Magill Roads to address a critical coverage gap in the city fringe suburbs.
